“Peace on Your Wings” is presented by Ohana Arts.
According to Japanese legend, anyone who folds a thousand paper cranes will be granted one wish. Travel back in time to 1950’s Japan, and join 12-year-old Sadako Sasaki on her quest to fold a thousand paper cranes in exchange for good health and peace. Set in post-War Hiroshima, “Peace On Your Wings” is a groundbreaking new musical that follows the lives of middle schoolers. When one of them falls seriously ill, the children’s lives and their tenuous bonds unravel; but one remarkable girl whose boundless spirit, unwavering determination, and dreams for a better tomorrow teaches her friends and the world about courage, love and peace. The musical’s original score, written by local writers and Ohana Arts co-founders Jenny Taira and Laurie Rubin, combines modern pop with Japanese influences to create a unique, uplifting, and inspiring show. Based on Sadako Sasaki’s true story, “Peace On Your Wings” addresses universal themes present in young people’s lives, touching intergenerational audiences, brought to life through music and theatrical storytelling, powerfully told by the voices of youth.
