Cultural Fusion

This is an annual event held by Tamagusuku Ryu Senju Kai Hawaii that showcases Okinawan dance and music. It serves as a fundraiser to support Okinawan dance education, including community performances, costumes, and scholarships for students to train in Okinawa.

ANA ʻAha Mele Concert with Nobuyuki Tsujii and Friends

Experience a gala-style concert at the Waikiki Shell. Enjoy a performance by pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii, joined by violinist Fumiaki Miura, jazz trumpeter Shutaro Matsui, and jazz pianist Kento Tsubosaka from Japan, along with local artist Raiatea Helm. This year, Nobuyuki Tsujii will perform some pieces popular in both Japan and the United States from the Studio Ghibli animation.

Build timeless skills through hand work. In this 2-hour beginner Sashiko workshop, you’ll learn traditional Japanese stitching techniques, both with and without knots, and discover how each stitch strengthens both fabric and spirit. You’ll practice foundational hand-stitching as you create a finished Sashiko piece displayed in a hoop, perfect for the holidays or as a handmade gift. All supplies included, just bring your open heart and curiosity. Participants will take home a practice pattern to keep building skills and rhythm beyond the class. *This beginner workshop is the first in a continuing series, setting the foundation for new Sashiko projects launching next year. Ikebana Workshop with Kay Hanano

The Nisei Veterans Memorial Center on Maui will host an Ikebana Workshop led by Kay Hanano. Ikebana is the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging. The workshop will be $45 per person and includes flowers, a kenzan, a container, and a mini lunch from Keyakiya.
