WAIPAHU, HI — The Hawai‘i Okinawan community proudly presents “Kugani Warabi – Golden Children,” an exciting afternoon dedicated to celebrating the vibrant culture of Okinawa through the eyes of our youth. The event will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hawai‘i Okinawa Center.
This two-hour showcase (including a 15-minute intermission and 10 minutes of emcee segments) will feature inspiring performances by young artists trained in traditional Okinawan disciplines. The program highlights a new generation of talent carrying forward the spirit, artistry, and heart of Uchinanchu culture.
Featured performers include:
- Tamagusuku Ryu Senju Kai Hawaii – odori (traditional Okinawan dance)
- Azama Honryu Allison Yanagi Ryukyu Dance Studio & Ryukyu Ongaku Nomura Ryu Dento Ongaku Kyo Kai Hawaii Shibu – odori and uta-sanshin (Okinawan three-stringed lute and vocals)
- Shorin Ryu Hawaii Seibu Kan – dynamic Okinawan karate demonstration
- Chinagu Eisa Hawaii – high-energy eisa taiko drumming and dance
- Hawai‘i Okinawa Creative Arts (HOCA) – captivating shishimai (lion-dog dance)
- Ryukyu Koten Afuso Ryu Ongaku Choichi Kai USA Hawaii – traditional uta-sanshin
- Mumutaruu – youth theater performance blending storytelling, humor, and cultural reflection
