Dancers and musicians from Okinawa will mark 60 years since Ryukyuan dance master Yuko Majikina and his family performed in Hawai’i to support a fundraising effort for the acquisition of the University of Hawai’i’s Okinawan collection (known as the Sakamaki/Hawley Collection), housed at Hamilton Library. Twelve Okinawan dancers along with a handful of Okinawan musicians will perform two hours of signature works by Yuko and Yoshinae Majikina depicting a unique style of traditional Okinawan dance. These dances illustrate everything from celebratory themes to the everyday life and characteristics of Okinawan society. Please join us for a memorable Ryukyu Buyo performance!

This is a fundraising event. A portion of your ticket sales will support the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Hamilton Library’s Okinawan Collection and the Center for Okinawan Studies. Mahalo for your support!
