On the island of Hawaiʻi, the East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Waiākea High School senior Dari Nekoba for her excellence in academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular achievements. Nekoba was presented with the EHHK scholarship during the Waiākea High School Senior Awards ceremony in May.
The achievements of the valedictorian of the Waiākea High School class of 2024 included: serving as an Arts and Communications Student Ambassadors for three years; being a member of the National Honor Society, the Waiākea High School Leo Club and Japanese Club; and received Service and Scholastic Achievement awards from 2021-2024. She also served as the Junior Young Buddhists Association Hawaiʻi Island president, and has been a member of the organization since 2018 when she was in the seventh grade. She also works part-time at Hilo Lunch Shop as a front counter server.
Dari Nekoba is the daughter of EHHKK members Darrell and Lori Nekoba and plans to attend the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in the fall to major in communications. She plans to become a graphic designer in the future.
About East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai
EHHKK coordinates, fosters, and promotes healthy relationships between the County of Hawaiʻi and Hiroshima, and also promotes fellowship and goodwill among its members. The EHHKK strives to promote the importance of peace between Hiroshima and Hawaiʻi.
Membership is open to all natives or descendants of Hiroshima, as well as anyone with an interest in learning about the history and culture of Hiroshima.
